Confession

I confess that I’m not my cheery self this morning. I’m feeling a bit low lately. The Connecticut shootings are weighing heavily on my mind. What’s worse is that I’m having difficulty separating all of these shootings. They’re beginning to blur. We even had one here in Oregon a few days ago at the Clackamas Town Center not far from where I live....

  1. Two other blogging friends of mine must live within 100 miles of you in Oregon.

I am also were you are...stunned, numb and for me, I call it muddled. So much sadness, so much pain. I turned off the TV, I don't need to know the conjecture of the media. All I need know is that someone else who was hurting from whatever inability to cope, felt the need to not be anonymous in a suicide but infamous in a homicide of heinous proportions.

  2. Are we reaching a point in our society where everyday pressures are becoming too much for some to handle? As pressures increase in the future, and you know they will, will this just become more commonplace?

  3. I'm with you. I have had a difficult time with this. I want to be able to write about it, but I just can not seem to pull it together right now.

  4. Stephen: You speak for many, including me. I regret that politics is so divisive. But we have a full blown crisis on our hands that is out of control. I see this tragedy as an opportunity for all politicians to come together--regardless of rank-- and address this head on. A dear friend of mine, who is a young mother, spoke of locked school doors after a certain hour, metal detectors and security. We are at that point of needing to take aggressive actions. We have the best minds in the world. We can resolve it and move forward united and with confidence by engaging all disciplines for "meaningful action". Amen.

  6. This country called America has been in peril for many, many years prior to this tragedy. Many others have died similar deaths and nothing was done. Murder and mayhem sell newspapers and top news spots on tv, internet, etc. In a few weeks to months, a study will come about how or what should be done to prevent this. Nothing will happen. Even the President's own words probably do not mean much, except a photo op about sorrow n tragedy. Leave the parents, Moms n Dads, families alone to grieve in private. NOPE, news people will seek them out for the opportunity to catch the tears falling from one's eyes, etc. Unfortunately, for these individuals there will be no more Christmas, graduations, university, marriage and grandchildren and on and on and on. The more public this becomes, the less that is done. Prove me wrong. Its even happened in my country and soon, when something worse happens, this too, will be mostly forgotten, except by good people like you n me n ???.....BUT wait a moment - our voices do not count, or will they?? 7. Those shootings have sure got to people, but at least we now have the wisdom of the NRA to guide us. Once we have installed millions of guard with assault rifles in every public gathering place in order to protect us from ourselves, we will all feel safe again.

  10. Tricky sometimes to keep on laughing when there is so much crap going on -- these shootings take your soul away.
